Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that reshapes a specific area of your body by removing excess fat for a more contoured appearance. Dr. Bootstaylor uses a suctioning technique to remove excess fat from an area of your body, such as your waist or thighs, to reshape them. In some cases, you can undergo liposuction with a local anesthetic, but larger areas may require a general anesthetic, so you sleep through the procedure.

What areas of my body can I treat with liposuction?

Liposuction works on nearly any problem area of your body where you’d like a more defined contour or silhouette. Some of the most popular areas for liposuction include:

  • Belly and love handles
  • Arms
  • Buttocks
  • Neck
  • Thighs
  • Ankles
  • Legs
  • Back
  • Chest or breasts
  • Hips

You can get liposuction on more than one area at a time, or Dr. Bootstaylor may recommend combining liposuction with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck or Brazilian butt lift.

Will I lose weight with liposuction?

Liposuction is not a substitute for weight-loss methods like diet and exercise, but it can help your body appear slimmer and firmer in specific areas. If you’re close to your ideal weight, usually within 30 pounds of where you want to be, liposuction can treat those last few stubborn fat deposits that won’t budge with traditional weight-loss efforts. If you still have more than 30 pounds to lose, Dr. Bootstaylor recommends postponing liposuction until you’ve gotten closer to your goal.

What results can I expect with liposuction?

After your procedure, you can expect to experience some pain and swelling in the treated area. You may need to wear a compression garment for a few weeks to minimize swelling as you heal. Over time, you’ll see your new, improved shape and a leaner, more contoured silhouette.

One of the advantages of liposuction over noninvasive procedures is that you generally need just a single treatment to achieve your desired results, and the outcome is usually long-lasting if you maintain your weight.
