Breast Reduction in Atlanta, GA

Breast Reduction

There is an old saying that “bigger is better”, but there are many women who could disagree with that statement. Not only can larger breasts be a burden when it comes to finding the right clothes to wear or unwanted attention, but can also lead to unwanted back pain. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman who desires to enhance their breasts, but if your health or physicality is negatively affected, we strongly encourage you to consider making the changes that will help you live a better life. At Dr. Lissa Plastic Surgery, we want you to be happy and if a Breast Reduction in Atlanta can help you achieve that, it might be time to schedule your consultation. Please keep reading below to find out how a breast reduction could help you!

What is Breast Reduction?

Breast reduction (or reduction mammoplasty) is an operation designed to reduce and reshape large breasts. Many women suffer from pain and other symptoms associated with large breasts. Discomfort associated with large breasts can include chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain, as well as painful shoulder grooves from bra straps. Large breast size may also limit a woman’s ability to perform daily activities and may cause significant emotional distress. By reducing breast size and restoring a more youthful breast shape, breast reduction surgery may relieve many of these symptoms.

  • Alleviated back, neck, and shoulder pain
  • Better proportioned body
  • Clothing fits better
  • Fast recovery time
  • Improved hygiene
  • Improved posture
  • More active lifestyle
  • Reduced skin irritation

Who are the Best Candidates for Breast Reduction?

The best candidate for Atlanta Breast Reduction is any woman dealing with the following issues:

  • Back, neck, or shoulder pain caused by the weight of their breasts
  • Breasts that are too large in proportion to the body frame
  • Get indentations in their shoulders from tight bra straps
  • Have heavy, pendulous breasts with nipples and areolas that point downward
  • Must restrict physical activity due to the size and weight of their breasts
  • One breast is larger than the other
  • Suffering from skin irritation beneath their breasts

While breast reduction can be performed at any age, we highly encourage you to wait until your breasts are fully developed before looking into the surgery (usually occurs between the ages of 18 and 23). Other characteristics that good candidates possess are:

  • In overall good health
  • Maintain realistic expectations from procedure results
  • Nonsmokers

Childbirth and breastfeeding may have significant and unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. Nevertheless, many women decide to undergo breast reduction before having children and feel that they can address any subsequent changes later. If you plan to breastfeed in the future, you should discuss this with Dr. Lissa.

Whats the First Step?

If you feel like a Breast Reduction in Atlanta, GA is best for you, then we recommend you contact Dr. Lissa Plastic Surgery and schedule your consultation. When you come in for this appointment, you will meet with Dr. Lissa Bootstaylor or one of our highly trained plastic surgery consultants. We will evaluate your breasts and listen to your concerns and goals from the procedure. We will also ask you questions about your medical history, and since we are discreet and confidential, it is very important to be open and honest because as she creates your surgical plan, any information you provide will help her make safe and educated decisions.

Once Dr. Lissa makes your surgical plan and you agree with her assessment, our Patient Coordinator can help you schedule your surgical date. You will also be provided with instructions to follow before coming in that will promote a healthy and successful surgery.

What to Expect on the Day of Breast Reduction

Most breast reductions take three to four hours and are done under general anesthesia. The pedicle technique is the most common type of breast reduction surgery. Lollipop techniques raise the nipple and areola to a higher position while leaving these tissues attached to portions of the underlying breast tissue. Areas of surrounding skin and breast tissue are removed to create a smaller breast. The remaining skin and breast tissue are then fitted around the nipple in its new location. The result is usually breasts that are smaller and less “saggy” than before the operation.

Dr. Bootstaylor performs surgical procedures at Emory University Hospital Midtown and Northside Hospital.

Breast Reduction Recovery

The good news is that most patients can return to work within a few days. But during the first 24 to 48 hours, patients typically feel sore and tired. Medication can control almost any discomfort during this recovery period. The stitches will be removed in a week to 10 days, and within three to five weeks all swelling should be gone.

How Much Does Breast Reduction Cost in Atlanta?

The cost of Breast Reduction in Atlanta is determined by multiple factors, primarily what kind of work is required to reduce your breasts but maintain a good, natural appearance. During your consultation with Dr. Lissa, she will get the best understanding of how to perform your surgery to best suit your needs. Once this plan is made and agreed upon, our Patient Coordinator will be able to give you a breakdown of the expected amount of your whole experience.
