What is Latisse®?

Latisse® is a prescription treatment that helps to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. It is used in the treating of hypotrichosis.

Hypotrichosis is another term for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

Does Latisse® really work?

Latisse® does work when used as directed.

How does Latisse® work?

Latisse® stimulates growth for your eyelashes. The active ingredient in Latisse® is called Bimatoprost. Research suggests that the growth of the eyelashes results by increasing the percent of hairs during the growth phase of the hair follicle. Bimatoprost helps prolong this growth phase, resulting in longer lashes and generating extra lashes, resulting in fuller lashes.

Is Latisse® a replacement for mascara?

With regular use, Latisse® will grow your natural eyelashes longer, fuller, thicker, and darker – the very same reasons women use mascara. However, you can still use mascara while using Latisse®.

How do I apply Latisse®?

The Latisse® solution is used once a day, and you may apply it each evening to the base of the upper eyelashes. It is important not to apply in the eye or to the lower eyelid because excess hair growth outside the treatment area may occur. Read instructions thoroughly and apply as instructed.

Before applying Latisse® each night, ensure your face is clean of makeup and contact lenses are removed.

Then, holding the sterile applicator horizontally, place one drop of Latisse® solution on the area of the applicator closest to the tip but not on the tip, so as to not let any drip off.

Immediately draw the applicator carefully along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes (where the eyelashes meet the skin), going from the inner part of your lash line to the outer part.

Blot any excess solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue and dispose of the applicator. Repeat for opposite eyelid using a new sterile applicator to help minimize any potential for contamination.

Can Latisse® be used on both upper and lower lashes?

Unfortunately no. It is important to apply Latisse® only to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes using the accompanying sterile applicators. Carefully blot any excess Latisse® from the eyelid margin to avoid it running onto the cheek or other skin areas. Some patients have reported that even though they don’t apply Latisse® to their lower lashes, they are finding that in some cases the lower lashes are growing too. This results when the eyes are closed while sleeping the lower lashes are getting the benefits of the solution as well.

Is Latisse® safe to use?

Yes. Latisse® is safe to use. Latisse® has been clinically tested for its safety and efficacy. Bimatoprost, the active ingredient in Latisse®, was first approved in 2001 as a medical product to lower intraocular pressure in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Patients treated with Bimatoprost for this specific eye condition experienced eyelash growth as a side effect. The medical community has recognized the long-term safety of Bimatoprost for therapeutic use as well as its effectiveness at treating hypotrichosis.
