If you want to increase volume and fullness in your lips, consider a lip augmentation procedure. Led by plastic surgeon, Dr. Lisa Bootstaylor, our facility provides lip augmentation and other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures for patients residing in the metro Atlanta area and surrounding communities in Georgia.
What is lip augmentation?
Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Lips may be injected with collagen or with fat transferred from another site on the patient’s body. Both liquid collagen and fat are absorbed, and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results.
How Can Lip Augmentation Improve my Appearance?
The aging process, as well as lifestyle habits, such as smoking, may cause lips to become thin and brittle, surrounded by vertical lines. Many women notice that their lipstick bleeds beyond the lip line due to lack of definition in the lips. If you’re ready to eliminate those vertical lines and restore volume, definition, and smoothness to lips that have become thin and brittle, lip augmentation is a simple and quick solution that can refresh your entire facial appearance.
Am I a Good Candidate for Lip Augmentation?
If you are a healthy adult and your lipstick won’t stay inside your lip line because your lips have become thin and brittle or have almost disappeared entirely, you may be an ideal candidate for lip augmentation. Lip augmentation is not for everyone. This procedure is not recommended for people who have recurring health conditions that affect the lips, such as oral herpes.
How does Lip Augmentation work?
A natural or synthetic biocompatible material, or the patient’s own fat, is injected or implanted in the lips. One injection is usually sufficient to produce the desired result, which may be temporary depending on the material used. Injections may need to be repeated periodically.
Dr. Bootstaylor performs surgical procedures at Emory University Hospital Midtown and Northside Hospital.
What are my risks?
Allergic reactions can range from prolonged redness, swelling or itching, to firmness at the injection site. Other possible complications include bleeding, lip asymmetry, and migration and extrusion of the implant. Normal swelling and bruising lasts from three days to a week.
How quickly will I heal after Lip Augmentation?
There is no downtime following lip augmentation, and you may resume your normal activities immediately. Some individuals may experience minor soreness, swelling or bruising initially after treatment, but these symptoms subside naturally in a day or two. Avoid touching your lips or kissing anyone immediately following the treatment and for several hours afterward.
