What is a Body Lift?
A body lift is a surgical procedure that is normally required after a person achieves extreme weight loss in order to eliminate the folds of sagging skin that are typically often left behind around the torso and midsection. A body lift may be combined with other procedures, such as liposuction, an arm lift, thigh lift and/or breast enhancement, to achieve a more comprehensive and personalized makeover.
What does a Body Lift achieve?
It is normal following dramatic weight loss to have hanging folds of skin remain around the torso. These folds are not only unattractive, they may also produce physical discomforts, such as chafing, rashes, and infections. In some patients, skin may have lost the elasticity necessary to tighten itself around a slimmer body. In these cases, a body lift is performed to trim away excess skin, lift sagging muscles, and achieve a more toned and defined body contour. A body lift may achieve the following improvements:
- Tightens and flattens the abdomen
- Reshapes a more toned and slimmer waistline
- Tightens and lifts sagging buttocks
- Eliminates sagging skin from the tummy, thighs, and buttocks
- Eliminates scars, imperfections, and cellulite in the skin that is removed
- Relieves and prevents further chafing and irritation caused by hanging folds of skin around the torso
- Produces a more toned and defined body contour
- Encourages self-esteem and a positive body image
Who should consider a Body Lift?
This procedure is commonly performed on patients who were once obese and have lost weight naturally or by means of surgery to eliminate loose hanging folds of skin around the torso and midsection. An intake consultation with Dr. Bootstaylor can help you determine if a body lift may be suitable for you.
How is the Body Lift performed?
A body lift is normally performed under general anesthesia using an incision that encircles the body through which excess skin and fat are extracted from the abdomen, hips, buttocks, and lower back. The procedure tightens the midsection, and excess skin is trimmed away. Dr. Bootstaylor hides the incision within the bikini area to make it as inconspicuous as possible. Liposuction may be combined with a body lift to extract fatty tissue from stubborn problem areas and smooth the body contour. You may also combine a body lift with other procedures, such as breast enhancement, to achieve a more comprehensive makeover.

How quickly will I heal after a Body Lift?
We recommend that you rest for about a week, then resume light, non-strenuous activities. Immediately after the surgery, you will have to wear a compressive garment for several weeks to support delicate tissue, reduce swelling and discomfort, and enhance the results of your procedure by helping your body adapt to its new shape. You may gradually resume normal activities, including sex, after a period of about six weeks. Our staff will be on hand to closely monitor your recovery process and provide answers to any questions you may have during this period.
