We’ve all seen them. Those short, vertical lines between the eyebrows that make you look like you’re mad all the time. Those are glabellar lines, but they’re commonly called frown lines. Our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Lisa Bootstaylor and her staff are reducing frown lines all over Buckhead, Atlanta, Marietta, Sandy Springs, and nearby communities in Georgia.
What is Xeomin®?
Xeomin® is an FDA-approved injectable gel used to treat several muscle-related issues. Unlike dermal fillers, Xeomin® is injected into muscle tissue to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines) between eyebrows.
What are the Benefits of Xeomin®?
- Long lasting results
- Takes effect more quickly than other alternative injectables
- Contains no additives
- Non-surgical, non-invasive procedure
- Little to no downtime required following treatment
How Does Xeomin® Work?
Xeomin® is injected into your muscle tissue. The injections can be administered in several areas during a single treatment session, depending on which conditions are being addressed.
Xeomin® contains the bacteria that causes botulism, known as botulinum toxin type A. It’s used to block the muscle movements that contribute to wrinkles, such as when you repeatedly squint, frown or furrow your brow. It reduces the muscle movement by blocking the nerve signals and is most often used in the area between the brows, to soften visible frown lines.
It should be noted that Xeomin® only has an impact on muscle movement. It is not a filler, so it doesn’t have any effect in filling in deep wrinkles that may already be there.
Is Xeomin® Right for Me?
During your consultation, we’ll discuss your options with you and help you determine if Xeomin® is the best choice for you, based on your medical history and your personal aesthetic goals.
Xeomin® should not be administered if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients, including botulinum toxin. You should also postpone Xeomin® treatment if you have any swelling, muscle weakness or infection in the area needing to be treated.
