What is Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription-based filler that is injected into facial muscles to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows for a short period of time. Botox® Cosmetic should only be administered by a trained healthcare professional.
How does Botox® Cosmetic work?
It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows. Effectiveness will vary by individual.
When should I expect to see results from using Botox® Cosmetic?
Results will usually show up within days. Lines continue to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to four months or more, depending upon how often areas are treated in succession. Individual results may vary.
How long does a treatment of Botox® Cosmetic last?
Visible results have been shown to last up to four months or more. Your personal results will vary. Studies have shown that continual use of Botox® Cosmetic will increase the amount of time between treatments.
Are Botox® Cosmetic treatments painful?
Botox® Cosmetic injections usually cause minimal discomfort and only last briefly. Prior to treatment, Dr. Bootstaylor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the doctor’s office without any downtime following a treatment of Botox® Cosmetic.
What are the side effects of using Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic can cause some side effects in some people and should only be administered by a qualified healthcare professional.
Side effects may include:
- Dry mouth
- Discomfort or pain at the injection site
- Neck pain
- Eye problems, such as double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, drooping eyelids, swelling of your eyelids, and dry eyes
- Allergic reactions, though rare; symptoms of an allergic reaction to Botox® may include: itching, rash, welts, wheezing, asthma symptoms, or dizziness or feeling faint
Inform your doctor or get medical help right away if you are wheezing or have asthma symptoms, or if you become dizzy and faint. Tell your doctor if you have any side effects that bother you or that do not go away.
